Marina Matsuoka

Marina Matsuoka is a Japanese pianist and she was educated by Suzuki method in Japan.

Marina has won several prizes in both national and international competitions, such as 2nd prize at the Malmö Piano Competition, 1st prize and semi grand prize among all age categories at the Tokyo Piano Competition, and 2nd prize and public award at the Steinway Piano Competition, Berlin. In 2015, she got a diploma (d’exécution à l’unanimité) at École Normale de Musique de Paris.  

Marina finished her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at the Tokyo College of Music, with Katsunori Ishii and Seizo Azuma as her teachers. After that, she was working as an accompanist there. She has been a member of Grieg Society of Japan since 2021.

She also finished her master’s degree at the Grieg Academy and studied with Signe Bakke. In 2024 and 2025, she played at the concert series “Pianist of the week” at Troldhaugen.

Marina played Grieg’s Piano Concerto with USO, University of Bergen Symphony Orchestra collaborating to her master project in March, 2025. In April, she was invited to the concert series “Piano på slottet” and had a solo recital at Malmö Konsertmuseum. 

In 2026, she participated in Dans - en Fest! as a pianist and performed with dancers led by the choreographer, Louis Barreau. And in August, she is invited to perform at Siliustøl by KODE.  Currently, she is active in Begen as a concert pianist, ensemble player and teacher.
